GMR High School Nominates Two Students for ExCEL Award

Greenbush Middle River High School is pleased to announce the nomination of two juniors, Carly Mekash and Robert Hlucny, for the Minnesota State High School League’s ExCEL award. The ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) is a program designed to recognize high school juniors who are active as volunteers in their communities, hold leadership positions within their school, participate in MSHSL sponsored activities, and perform well academically.
 
In January, an independent panel of judges will review applications from throughout Minnesota to select this year’s ExCEL Award recipients. Statewide winners of the 21st annual ExCEL Award will be announced on the MSHSL website on February 6, 2017 and recognized on television during the winter sports tournament season.
 
Throughout her high school career, Carly has been a leader in all areas of our school. Carly currently serves as the Junior Class President and actively participates in Student Council. She is a three-year veteran of the BGMR athletics program and participates in volleyball, basketball, and softball. In addition, Carly is a part of the GMR choir and is also involved in Close-Up. For the past two years, she also been involved with First Robotics. Carly also contributes to the community by assisting with the Little Dribblers program, as well as the GMR youth summer basketball camp, as well as volunteering at her church by assisting with Sunday School youth activities. Carly is the daughter of Dale and Shellie Mekash of Greenbush.
