Each year, Spruce Valley Township performs brush maintenance in township ditches. This serves a multitude of purposes, including aiding ditch drainage, enhancing road stability, and ensuring accessible snowmobile trails. This year they undertook a major project along the railroad track west of Middle River. In fact, the new skyline surprises me every time I step out my door!
The township works closely with our local snowmobiling club, the Drift Skippers, with a goal of clearing more brush along the snowmobile trails that run through Spruce Valley. This project has increased the safety and accessibility of the snowmobile trails, which will boost an already robust winter recreation scene.
The part of the trail that runs along Old Highway 32 was greatly in need of some attention. Trees would scrape your vehicle if you met a car while traveling down the road and impassable snowbanks would form, spanning the width of the road after winter storms. The trail itself was quite narrow and was also becoming overgrown.
Other notable brush maintenance work was carried out near the residence of Kyle Rehm and by the Dennis Lorenson Cabin. Addressing the needs of these areas will improve trail access and more for visitors and the residents of Spruce Valley Township.
