The American Legion Post 444 has experienced great success with Wednesday Burger Nights. It has become a night for friends and families to meet for a delicious supper and a good night of visiting. They are hoping that this success will transfer to Monday night, and have opened up their kitchen so that other groups and organizations will have a chance to offer a meal to the community and raise funds for their various causes.
One of the organizers, Brett Brandon, commented, “Our purpose is to support the community. The Monday night meals will help us and the groups that come in to serve and provide a place for people to eat in town.” Trevor Berg and Ed Gronewold rounded out the committee. They held a few meetings to gauge interest and enough groups came forward.
Now, the rotation is set. Coach Hunter Gullikson and the Legion Baseball team will kick off the first Monday with Taco Night. Friends of the Barb Geer Memorial Library will be serving a variety of soups and sandwiches on the 2nd Monday of January. The MR/TL Living At Home will dish up a Hot Pork or Hot Beef Meal on the January 15. The fourth Monday is open, and in January the Middle River Community Club will be serving spaghetti. DAV Chapter 7 is going to cover the 5th Monday when one comes around, and in January they will be dishing up Ham & Scalloped Potatoes.
Monday Night Meals will be served from 5:00 - 7:00 PM each Monday at the American Legion in Middle River.
This is a tremendous opportunity being given to so many through the graciousness of the American Legion. Many groups will benefit from added fundraising and the community will get another chance to come together and enjoy food and fellowship!
