GMR Culinary II Class Experiences Unique Food Preparation

Guest chef Kara Super-Peterson, GMR graduate of 1998, spent three days last week back at her alma mater teaching Unique ethnic foods + techniques + and her love of fine cuisine. Kara received her Chef degree from Moorhead Technical College following high school graduation and has served and catered many events, large and small throughout the state.

Kara received her Chef degree from Moorhead Technical College following high school graduation and has served and catered many events, large and small throughout the state.

Day 1: 'ASMR' is a teen social media fad. It is a sensory sensation had while hearing the 'crunch' of food. Kara demonstrated two fun techniques with food to create this.

-Vietnamese Fried Rice Paper (nem) -Chinese Tanghulu - which is a candied fruit on a skewer Day 2: Sushi -California Roll & Dragon Roll with Tobiko Caviar - The students learned all about how to make sushi rice, learned about nori (seaweed), tried seared tuna + really got creative on garnishing with spicy mayo, eel sauce, wasabi and caviar.

Day 3: Fresh spring rolls with rice paper, Mei fun rice noodles, Nước Chấm Dipping Sauce and Tangy Peanut Sauce. They experienced the rolls two ways - Fresh and pan fried!

Following her three days with the students, Kara said, “This was a truly amazing experience with these awesome seniors! Teaching these kids this culinary experience is one of my favorite experiences in the kitchen. I loved giving back to my former school.”
