Marshall County Soybean/Corn Growers Donate Books to Area Schools

The Marshall County Soybean and Corn Growers and their checkoff dollars are supporting their schools and promoting agriculture with donations of books to local schools. The growers have donated agricultural educational books to elementary schools in Warren-Alvarado-Oslo, Grygla, Stephen – Argyle and Marshall County Central in Newfolden.

The goal of the endeavor is to show the value of agriculture by increasing agricultural literacy through K-2 education. Accordingly, the Marshall County Soybean-Corn Growers brought $300.00 worth of books to libraries. The books were purchased through the ND Farmers Union.

We are happy to provide these learning tools for our schools”, says Tony Johnson, Marshall County Soybean & Corn Growers President. “With each generation there are fewer people on our farms. However, farmers create so many off-farm jobs that it is important for our youth to learn about agriculture at an early age. So, when the time comes, they can choose an agricultural career in the community where they live and not have to move away to find a job.

The donated books are the fourth children’s book from North Dakota Farmers Union that include, “Where Roots Run Deep”, “Everyone Works on a Family Farm”, “The Early Snow”, and “Cows on the Mooove”. Dusty learns about generations of family and equipment on their farm, and the latest in soil technology. The kids will find out how Dusty makes Grams a new thingamajig for his tractor to save the day!

The Marshall County Soybean & Corn Growers Association is affiliated with the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, which oversees the investment of soybean checkoff dollars on behalf of approximately 25,000 farmers in Minnesota. The Council is governed by the rules of a federally mandated checkoff program that requires all soybean producers to pay a fee on the soybeans they sell. This money is used to promote, educate and develop market opportunities for soybeans

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is one of the largest grassroots farm organizations in the United States. Working in close partnership with the Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council, MCGA identifies and promotes opportunities for Minnesota’s 24,000 corn farmers while building connections with the non-farming.
