Meeting Held about Legacy Center’s Future Ahead of Survey Results
A special meeting was held between the Middle River City Council and the Legacy Committee.
The meeting opened with a letter from the Polk County Health Environmental Specialist, which is printed on the right.
This letter reveals a differing opinion than what has been put forth to the citizens of Middle River with regards to the mold situation at the Legacy Center and what can be done to remediate the situation. It has been suggested that specialists are needed to work on the repairs and clean up needed at the building. Yet, in Minnesota, no such rules exist. In fact, FREE help may be available through the Minnesota Extension program, which is how Deb Ness and Deb Zak were led to contact the Environmental Specialist at Polk County after contacting the Marshall County Extension Service.
This is certainly good news for the alumni and others that are determined to keep this building alive!
As The Honker goes to press this week, the surveys are being opened. We have hope to continue working to save our Legacy, no matter the outcome!
7/22/24 To whom this may concern: I visited the Middle River Legacy building at 335 4th St. in Middle River, MN on 7 /18/24.
I am writing this letter to state that after I visited each room within the building and looked at the preliminary Mold Inspection Report from Nordic Inspections, the building can be fixed and put back into working order. Lars Knobloch from Nordie Inspections was the inspector, He is a Certified ASHI Inspector and Certified Indoor Environmentalist.
Once the roof is completely fixed, then the interior rooms of the building can be repaired. The areas of concern are known and the report states where there am 'Safety Hazards.'
Once the 'Safety Hazards” are repaired, I recommend testing for mold one last time to double check to see if there are mold spores in the air.
When I visited the building on July 18th I found the building overall not smelling of must or mold. I found it very nice and welcoming, l would recommend others to stay overnight at the Air Band B side.
After visiting with the ladies that welcomed me into the building; it sounds like they have a great plan in place for the building to be repaired and restored.
It would be in your best interest to maintain this historic building. The Middle River Legacy building is not a Public Health Safety concern currently. The rooms that have been marked as 'Safety Hazards” are kept closed and a sign is on the door to the ciosed room.
