The coffee hasn’t kicked in yet, so let’s just sit here and enjoy each other’s company, Dave. Ok, it’s just engaged, let’s get after it. I only discovered coffee in my late teens. Until then, I recognized the smell as it cooked and thought the percolator was magic, but had never tasted it until then. Pitching calf barn manure would have been a totally different experience with coffee, but who knew Dave? I don’t believe it would have made us work harder but the coffee breaks would have been nice. It seems odd to hope for an October or mid-October soybean harvest, Dave. People often harvest soybeans in October but that is typically the tail-end and not the front end of the harvest. The recent heat has pushed the corn and soybeans along so it appears there will be something to harvest. I haven’t scouted any corn fields yet but I plan to ask a few farmers for permission in the near future. On the home front, we have begun a better feeding system for the cats, Dave. Years ago, Lisa and I cared for two diabetic cats for about 5 years and we want to avoid a similar experience. Clyde needs to lose weight, while Clifford and Lizzie maintain theirs. We now shut the laundry room doors at night which is where lies the cat commissary.
This has helped but we need to keep progressing. Lisa recently purchased some nice measuring scoops and we plan to have a conversation about the impending end to our current food-on-demand system with the cats. I will soon return to the radio as a volunteer, Dave. I have been working behind the scenes for Pioneer Community Radio but have yet to work a full on-air shift. That will soon end as I return to my Sunday afternoon shift. The difference this time is I will be working with a brand-new library of classic country music. I spent about a year assembling the classic country music assortment that just fits together and then the station manager and I went to garage sales, thrift stores and various online sources to bring that music home. It will be like seeing old friends, Dave. I can hardly wait to start. Never too early to start Christnas, I always say. I saw the first hint of secular Christmas this past week. Dave. The local Walmart had cleared out the lawn and garden items and leapt forward in time directly to Christmas. It’s a little early, even for me, but it still made me smile. I just finished off spraying some more buckthorn, Dave. My backpack sprayer has become a useful tool even though it makes walking on uneven ground a bit more difficult. Using it makes spraying a much faster operation than with a typical one gallon hand pump. My progress is such that I figure I will have most of the buckthorn under control in about three years. It’s a fair amount of work so I have to break it down into manageable chunks. That’s the news from around here, Dave. I hope all is well in Carrington and tell everyone hello. Your little bro’
