GMR Elementary Students
Jump all over Heart Disease & Stroke!
On Friday November 1st, students from the Greenbush-Middle River Elementary jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Kids Heart Challenge. The students raised more than $4,000.00 for the American Heart Association.
As part of the Kids Heart Challenge Competition between classes teacher Kent Christian bet the classes they wouldn’t be able to raise over $4,000. If they did Mr. Christian would have to take a pie in the face at a girl’s basketball game. With less than 24 hours left the students were $200 short of the goal but would not be turned back and they achieved their goal. Now, Mr. Christian will get pied by Branson Schneider who raised the most money, which was over $500.00!
The class that raised the most money won a pizza party. This year’s top class was the Kindergarten which was led by teacher Mrs. Katie Johnston. The following is a list of dollars brought in by each class: Kindergarten - $1199.44, First Grade - $431.39, Second Grade - $1074.69, Third Grade - $60.00, Fourth Grade - $742.58, Fifth Grade - $0.00, Sixth Grade - $521.61.
Donations raised for Kids Heart Challenge help fund research, fight heart disease and stroke and support the American Heart Association’s public and professional education programs. Heart disease is the number 1 killer in America and stroke is number 5.
“This year’s event was a huge success as it helped raise money for a great cause”, said Kent Christian, Kids Heart Challenge coordinator. “We’re extremely proud of all the jumpers and we all had a lot of fun.”
