Two years ago, Lorrie Rose was excitedly dreaming of a special quilt to celebrate the Middle River Community Club’s 50th Goose Celebration. Well, that dream was brought to fruition in April of 2024 when she and fellow Middle River quilter enthusiast, Lois Anderson, attended a 2 1/2 day quilting workshop. And that is where the dream officially took off.
They planned their design and each worked at home on parts of the quilt, sending pictures back and forth and checking in with each other. Barb Senum of His Amazing Grace gift shop in Middle River did the sublimation of the button designs on the fabric and Traci Mitterling of Warroad did the long arm stitching.
They feel the most difficult and tedious step for Lorrie and Lois was the intricate creation of 400 half square triangles between each block which were 1 inch in size. But both Lois and Lorrie admitted that the final result was above and beyond their expectations, and it was a vision come true!
After seeing the final creation, the Middle River Community Club discussed the future of this quilt because of its special historical significance. If it was used for the Goose Fest quilt raffle, it would probably never be seen again. Therefore, it was decided to use another quilt for the raffle and keep this beautiful piece of history to be displayed at every Goose Festival.
But for the next year, it will be displayed at all the Middle River businesses. It began its journey at Young’s Store front window prior to this year’s festival and was then moved to Border Bank where it will be displayed until February.
And for the remainder of time, it will stay right where it belongs...in Middle River where it will be the special guest of every Goose Festival in the future!
Thank you Lorrie and Lois for your creative work and dedication to Middle River!
