Gator Boys Wrapup

Bearcats Control Gators

The Kittson County Central Bearcats rode the strong inside play of Ty Vig and Kellen Johnson, who combined for 44 points leading to a 70-34 Bearcat win over the BGMR Gator Boys Basketball Team. Offense, or a lack of, was again the demise for the Gators as they managed only 34 points on 31% shooting from the field.

BGMR would again play strong defense for the first 10 minutes of the game limiting KCC to several tough possessions. The Gators however could not throw the ball into the ocean from the beach and found themselves down 34-11 at halftime. The offensive woes for the Gators would continue in the second half and the Bearcats showed why they could be a tough team to beat come playoff time.

BGMR was led in scoring by Will Foss who had 13 points. No other Gator would reach double digits. Meanwhile Vig would score 25 and pull down 12 rebounds for KCC. Johnson would dump in 19.

BGMR will look to pick up their first win of the year on Monday when the winless Lake of the Woods Bears come to Badger for a game. One team will pick up their first win of the year and BGMR is hoping they bring their solid game so they can achieve that elusive first win.

Gators Pick up First Season Win

Playing a home game in Badger was a recipe for success for the BGMR Gator Boys Basketball Team as the Gators dismantled the Lake of the Woods Bears 83-36.

In a battle of teams that were both looking for the first win of the year the Gators jumped on the Bears early and raced into halftime with a 59-17 lead. The Bears showed heart in the second half but the 42 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome. Offensively BGMR got a 27 point, 11 rebound performance from Taylor Davy. Masen Swenson dumped in 20 points. No other Gator reached double figures but the Gators played thirteen individuals with ten of them scoring. The Bears were led in scoring by John Forrest with 10 points.

BGMR won’t have time to celebrate the win as they hit the road to Roseau on Tuesday, January 14. The rival Rams will pose a challenge for the Gators but one in which if the Gators show up to play should be a solid contest between these two rival teams.

Rams Take Care of Gators

Coming off their first win of the 2024-2025 boys’ basketball season the BGMR Gators were hoping to continue their winning ways. Unfortunately for the Gators the Jordan Borowicz led Rams beat the Gators 84-68. Borowicz dominated the Gators as he netted 40 points on 13 of 20 shooting from the field while also going 12 for 12 from the line.

BGMR and Roseau played a back and forth first half until about the four minute mark when the Gators fell asleep and allowed the Rams to go into halftime with a 46-29 lead. Roseau would push the lead to 20 but BGMR would close the gap to 7 with just over 4 minutes to play. The relentless Gators however ran out of gas and could not complete the comeback.

Offensively the Gators got a 24 point performance from Taylor Davy. Masen Swenson poured in 18 and Will Foss scored 11. In addition to Borowicz’s 40 the Rams got 12 points from Jake Borowicz, 12 from Calvin Kingbird and 11 from Hank Braaten.

BGMR continues its busy week as they return home on Thursday to take on the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears. The Bears are having a solid season and will bring an 8-1 record into The Swamp. BGMR will need to be locked in if they want to be able to compete with the Bears but this could be a dandy of a game and one in which Gator Nation won’t want to miss out on. u GATOR BOYS’ BB Photos on back page
