Lack of Offense Hurts Gators
Going against last year’s defending Section 8A champion and state runner-up Fertile-Beltrami Falcons the BGMR Gator Boys Basketball team knew they had a tremendous challenge ahead of them when they traveled to Fertile to take on the Falcons. As has been the case for much of the year the Gators were competitive for the first six to eight minutes of the game but BGMR again had a tough time putting the ball in the basket which would lead to a 69-32 Falcon victory.
With a distinct height advantage, the Falcons would overwhelm the Gators both offensively and defensively. BGMR managed only 27% shooting which has been the case way too often this year. Mason Swenson was the only Gator to reach double digits with 11 points. Fertile-Beltrami meanwhile got 21 points from Preston Hanson, 15 from Caleb Sather and 11 from Drew Gullickson.
BGMR will need to forget about the tough loss in a hurry as they travel to Grygla tonight to take on the Grygla-Goodridge Chargers. The Chargers beat up the Gators in December but have been struggling a bit as of late. The Gators have shown that if they can find some offensive consistency they can compete with most teams. Tonight’s game should be a good challenge with both teams looking to jostle for playoff positioning.
Valiant Effort by Gators Comes
Up Short
Playing the second night of back to back games the BGMR Gators traveled to Grygla to take on the Grygla-Goodridge Chargers. The Gators were looking to avenge an earlier season loss to the Chargers but came up just short in a 57-52 loss.
As has been the case much of the season the Gators got off to a good start and had a 7 point lead early in the game. The Chargers however would bounce back and go into halftime with a 30-28 lead. The Gators would again suffer from a scoreless stretch and the Chargers would open up a ten point lead. The determined Gators could not overcome their offensive shortcomings and the Chargers would come away with the win.
Will Foss would lead the Gators with 16 points. Masen Swenson would score 13 and Austin Przekwas was a bit pull down low for the Gators and scored a career high 13. The Chargers were led by Shay Jacobson who scored 21 despite being hounded by the Gators Chase Lorenson for much of the night. No other Charger would reach double figures but several were in that 6-8 point range.
BGMR will have 3 practices before their next game when they travel to the Karlstad on Thursday to take on the Northern Freeze. The Freeze beat the Gators just over a week ago so the Gators have revenge on their mind. BGMR will return home on Friday when they take on the Roseau Rams. The Rams have been playing solid basketball as of late and it will be another tough conference matchup for the Gators. The season is flying by and playoffs are just over a month away. Gator Nation needs to get out and support this hard working, never say die team.
