MR-TL Living at Home Program Happenings

We have been busy! Every Wednesday we have bingo at the Royal Manor at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome, even if you don't live at the Royal Manor! Remember to bring your nickels too.

On Mondays and Thursdays there is an exercise class at 10:00 a.m. at the Royal Manor. The ex-ercise class follows a DVD called 'Sit and Be fit'. If you think you would benefit from this, come check it out.

We deliver Meals on Wheels on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The meals come from the cafe in Newfolden (Humblebees). It doesn't matter where you live, we will bring meals to you. Currently, we have seniors receiving meals in the Thief Lake/Gatzke area as well as Middle River. If you are interested give Cindy or Arline a call to schedule you for home delivered meals.

The Food Shelf is on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. If you would like to receive a delivery from the food shelf, just contact us and we will pick it up and deliver it to you.

We have also had a 'field trip' to Thief River Care Center to go visiting. There are plans to go to Oakland Park in March. Then Greenleaf the following month. Those who want to go along vis-iting simply let our office know that you would like to go along with, and we also find volunteers to carpool. Those going meet at the Royal Manor at noon and we leave at 1:00 p.m.

Who said pie? Our Pie Social is monthly with the next one scheduled for Monday, February 10th at 2:00 p.m. here at our office. Just bring yourself and enjoy some pie and coffee and visit with friends and neighbors. Volunteers provide the pie and there is no cost. Just come and join us!

On the 4th Thursday of the month 'Info and Bingo' is held in Gatzke at 1:00 p.m. On January 23rd, our first 'Info and Bingo' was held at the Community Center in Gatzke.

Middle River-Thief Lake Living at Home helps with outreach to Grygla and Strandquist. Bingo is always on the agenda! Bingo is held in Grygla at the Grain Bin Cafe around 12:30 p.m. on the 5th Wednesday of the month (when there are 5 Wednesdays). Strandquist begins their bingo session at 3:00 p.m. and is held at the Strandquist Community Center on the first Wednesday of each month.

There is a variety show in the works. The show will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the clubrooms at the American Legion in Middle River. We are looking for people who like to entertain, whether singing, playing music, doing magic or whatever you enjoy, please call us or contact one of board members. We would love to have you appear in our variety show!!

Middle River-Thief Lake Living at Home is all about 'Neighbors Helping Neighbors'. Our mission is to provide services in creating an environment where our older adults can live independently, with dignity and support. With our mission, we help those older adults live in the surroundings of their homes, communities or neighborhoods.

Staying in contact with our seniors, helps them with the loneliness, isolation and depression that they may experience. MR-TL Living at Home provides that connection with phone calls and home visits.

Also, we host events like History and Hotdish, Pie Socials, bingo and more. We provide transpor-tation for medical appointments, shopping or errands with volunteers.

The volunteers are the heart of Living at Home Programs. We can't provide our mission without volunteers like you. Whether you have an hour a day, an hour a month or every 6 months, and/or you would like to volunteer, we encourage you to share your time as part of our 'Neigh-bors Helping Neighbors' with our area seniors.

Our current board of directors are: Eileen Hemp, Board Chair; MaryAnn Berg, Treasurer; Janice Larson, Secretary, Jolie Teie, Tammy Johnson and Laurie Stromsodt.

Spread the word! If you know of anyone who would benefit from our program, please tell them about us or they can call us. To reach our office call 218-222-4466. Our hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Cindy or Arline would be happy to help.
