Go Red for Women:

Raising Awareness for Heart Health this February

Every February, hearts take center stage—not just for Valentine’s Day, but for an even more important reason: American Heart Month. The Go Red for Women movement, led by the American Heart Association, shines a spotlight on women’s heart health, reminding us that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women. Why Go Red?

Heart disease often goes unnoticed in women because symptoms can be different from those in men. Shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and back or jaw pain can all be warning signs—yet many women dismiss them as stress or exhaustion. The Go Red for Women initiative encourages women to recognize the signs, take charge of their heart health, and advocate for better awareness and research.

Key Facts About Women & Heart Disease: 1 in 3 women dies from heart disease each year; 90% of women have at least one risk factor for heart disease; 80% of heart disease cases can be prevented through lifestyle changes. How to Take Action This February, take steps to protect your heart and the hearts of the women around you by knowing your numbers, including blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and body mass index (BMI).

Make Heart-Healthy Choices: Exercise at least 30 minutes a day; Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins; Quit smoking and limit alcohol intake; Manage stress and mental health. Schedule a Heart Check-Up Women often put their families first, but your health matters too!
