GMR Math League Completes aVery Successful Season

GMR Math League travelled to Bemidji High School on Monday, February 10th to compete in the last meet of the regular season of Math League. Students on the scoring team were Audrey Gust, Quinn Vacura, Raegon Kuznia, Ava Christianson, Mya Bennett, Will Foss, Nathan Gust, and Sarah Pulk. Students participating as individuals were McKenzie Dahl, Clara Bergsnev, Jalyssa Gust, Teagan Landsrud, Levi Wahl, and Sierra Landsrud.

Scoring points in Event A: Mya with 3 points; Will, Raegon, and Quinn with 2 points each; Audrey, Ava, Nathan, Sierra, Jalyssa, Sarah, McKenize, and Teagan with 1 point each. Scoring points in Event B: Nathan with 2 points; Ava, Raegon, Quinn, Jalyssa, and McKenzie with 1 point each. Scoring points in Event C: Audrey and Will with 3 points each; Ava, Nathan, Raegon, Mya, Jalyssa, Sarah, and Levi with 2 points each, and Sierra with 1 point.

During the team round, the scoring team was able to answer two questions correctly for another 10 points. This secured a first place finish for meet 5 in section 8A and a 2nd place finish for meet 5 in the Northern Lights Division!

In the Division for meet 5, Bemidji was first with 59 points, GMR was second with 44 points, Nevis was third with 42 points, TRF was fourth with 28 points, and Badger was fifth with 19 points. Overall for the season, Bemidji was first with 30 rank points, TRF was second with 18 rank points, Nevis was third with 15 rank points, GMR was fourth with 12 rank points and Badger was fifth with 5 rank points.

Our top scorer in the Division by raw points was Audrey Gust with 30 points for the season and a power ranking score of 44.392. She also was awarded Honorable Mention and ranked 18th in the division. Will Foss had 29 points for the season but a higher power ranking score of 45.133 so he finished 16th in the division and was awarded 2nd Team All-Conference.

In the Section for meet 5, GMR was first with 44 points, Mt. Iron-Buhl was second with 40 points, TRF was third with 28 points, North Woods School was fourth with 27 points, Badger was fifth with 19 points, and Nashwauk-Keewatin was sixth with 14 points. Overall for the season, TRF was first with 32 points and will represent section 8A at the state math league tournament in March. Mt. Iron-Buhl and GMR both had 22 rank points at the end of the season but Mt. Iron-Buhl scored 240 raw points and GMR scored 222 raw points so Mr. Iron-Buhl was second, GMR was third, North Woods School was fourth with 17.5 rank points, Badger was fifth with 10.5 rank points, and Nashwauk-Keewatin was sixth with 6 rank points.

Math League will be graduating five seniors this year: McKenize, Clara, Raegon, Quinn, and Audrey. We wish them the best and thank them for their dedication and hard work throughout the years to GMR Math League!

GMR Math League ended the season with a very successful performance, placing 2nd in the Division behind Bemidji and 1st in Section 8A. 4th Grade Freeze Hoops Girls brought home 1st place from the Sacred Heart Tournament in East Grand Forks on Saturday, February 8th.
