On Monday, May 1, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach visited Warren, MN to meet with area County Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) about solutions to veteran’s care. During this visit, Congresswoman Fischbach had the honor of presenting Marshall County VSO and Retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) Brett Brandon with the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Combat Star.
“It was an honor to present this medal to Brett. In all the opportunities I have had in Congress, this was one of the most significant moments,” said Fischbach. “Our service members and veterans deserve all the recognition and support we can provide.”
CW3 Brandon served over 17 years in the United States Army and was deployed to Afghanistan for 12 months in 2005. While he qualified for Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Combat Star, his unit inadvertently failed to award it to him. Therefore, it was never on his military record despite proof that he had served in Afghanistan. The Congresswoman’s office was able to help correct his military record. Brandon originally started the process to update his records and receive the medal in August 2022. In February 2023, Congresswoman Fischbach’s office was contacted for assistance and within a month, the medal was approved.
