2023 marks the 59th year since the Community Action Network was established to help American families and communities overcome obstacles to poverty. Over 1000 agencies across the country are working every day to create opportunities and transform the lives of their neighbors making communities stronger and helping families across the US thrive. This year, Northwest Community Action, Inc., a proud member of the Community Action Network, commemorates 58 years of helping families throughout Roseau, Kittson, Lake of the Woods and Marshall Counties.
“Each May, during Community Action Month, we reflect on the impact NWCA and our network has had on families,” said Sharon Millner, Executive Director. “Last year alone, Community Action served nearly 2,000 people across northwest Minnesota and over 15 million across the country with immediately needed services such as shelter and food, and also long-term solutions like education, asset building, financial literacy training and job search.”
NWCA programs like Head Start, Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Little Brother /Little Sister, Team EPIC, SNAP Outreach, and Homeless Prevention employ 65 people across the area. NWCA employees are committed to The Promise of Community Action: “Community Action changes peoples’ lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.”
