Grinding Day at Old Mill State Park will be held Sunday, August 27, from 11 am to 4 pm. Its been four years since last operating the mill and we’re excited to be grinding flour again.
Visitors to the event will be able to visit the pioneer cabin, hike the trails, see the stone arch bridge, swim in the pond, and of course see the historic steam powered mill in operation.
The mill was built in 1897 and the steam engine in 1878. They have been the a huge attraction at the park since restoration in the 1950’s. While there, you will be able watch the flour grinding demonstration and bring home a fresh ground sack of flour. Lunch will be served by the Viking Volcanoes 4H Club.
Bring a chair, sit back and enjoy “Key Beat“, a musical group from Newfolden. They will perform at 1:30 pm. Kaydence, Kelby and Karmyn Augustine, play and sing a variety of music. You will be sure to enjoy them.
Grinding Day wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from Lars Larson Jr., to tell you about the history of the park and mill. Lars is expected to stop by and visit with everyone during the afternoon as he has been spotted this summer milling around the mill.
This event is free, but a vehicle permit is required to enter the park. The daily permit is $7 and an annual pass is $35. Permits are available online from the DNR website or at the park by use of smart phone. Old Mill State Park is located 11 miles west of Newfolden or 12 miles east of Argyle.
Grinding Day is sponsored by the Marshall County Historical Society and Friends of Old Mill.
