Stacey Herman
Stacey Herman
Stacey was born on November 18th, 1969, in Watertown, SD, to William “Bill” and Sharon (Rasmussen) Herman.
She graduated from Watertown High School in 1988. She attended the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1992 with a degree in Psychology.
In May 1992, she began her career supporting people with disabilities in Grand Forks, ND. In August 1998, Stacey started working for CHI Friendship, who supported people in Grafton, Park River, and Fargo, ND. Stacey discovered that the people she supported were her greatest teachers and influencers. Their beautiful and caring hearts made a true difference in Stacey’s life and the lives of many others.
Stacey returned to college to obtain her LPN and RN from Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks, MN. She also obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN. Stacey worked as a Registered Nurse in the NICU at Altru Hospital for two years before returning to CHI Friendship as a nurse.
For over 20 years at CHI Friendship, Stacey was very devoted to the people she supported, staff, co-workers, and company. Stacey held the position of Director of Health Services until the time of her illness. Stacey also held the position of the Foldahl Township Clerk for Marshall County in Minnesota from 2017 until the time of her illness.
In her spare time, Stacey enjoyed getting her nails done, drinking Lattes, using new pens and planners, playing Pinochle and Aggravation with her family, watching any UND Fighting Sioux game, going to concerts with her friends, and beating Joey at UNO. Such good times!!
Stacey LOVED being “Joey’s mom!” Joey was born September 22nd, 2006. Joey’s dad is Brian Capp of Lankin, ND. Stacey was VERY excited when Joey scored his first touchdown a few years ago. She was so excited she ran down the sideline meeting him in the endzone! Joey was the true joy and center of Stacey’s life. She loved singing songs to him in the mornings and she was convinced the feeling was mutual. She had a different song for every day of the week.
These songs were “very popular” especially when football practice was at 6 a.m. and when Joey drove to school for the first time!
Stacey tried to never miss any of Joey’s activities, especially his football and basketball games. She loved being a part of Marshall County Central’s awesome cheering section with other parents and fans.
She also enjoyed many fun vacations to Valley Fair, Mount Rushmore, Lake Okoboji in Iowa, Jack’s Garage, California, Florida, Jamaica, Key West, New York City, Hawaii-well, she didn’t go to Hawaii, but Hawaii actually came to Stacey. The best vacations are who you are with, not where you go. Stacey spent her most recent days at the Newfolden Community Center. She made so many great friends, learned so much, laughed even more, and enjoyed every minute of being there. It was her true honor to get to know so many Veterans and their families. They made our country and our lives better. We are all indebted to you for your service.
Stacey led a happy and fun life with so many cherished memories filled with love and laughter. She focused on the positive and trusted in the bright side of things. Stacey often said she was “lucky and blessed” due to her abundant amount of gratitude she had for everyone in her life.
Stacey is survived by her son Joey Capp, of Newfolden, MN; her mother Sharon Herman of Watertown, SD; her sisters: Lisa Herman of Newfolden, MN and Karla Dowding of Estherville, IA; her nephews: Travis and Hayden Dowding of Estherville, IA; several cousins; Molly, one very lonely dog; and especially her very, very dear friends. Stacey’s life would not have been the same without you.
Stacey donated her body to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine to advance science and research, to help educate the next generation of health care workers, and to help find cures and treatments for diseases, especially cancer.
Stacey was preceded in death by her infant son Jacob William; her father William “Bill” Herman; several awesome aunts and uncles; and one of her very dear friends, Kathy Vasichek.
