Rydell National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuges Association will be hosting their 6th Annual Youth Fishing Day at Rydell NWR on Saturday, July 15th, from 9:00am - 1:00pm. This free event is targeted towards youth age 15 or younger. Anglers age 16 and older must possess a valid Minnesota DNR fishing license to fish on the Refuge. A limited amount of fishing tackle (rods and reels) will be available, or youth anglers are welcome to bring their own. Bait will be provided, free of charge. The fish won’t be the only ones eating for free – lunch will be provided for all participants.

During the June meeting of the Holt Keenagers Father's Day was celebrated with DelRay Sannes' name being drawn for a gift. We are looking for a senior to represent Holt at the Marshall County Fair.

The committee of the Miss Middle River Scholarship Organization is currently planning the 2023 pageant for August 5. The participants must be going into 11th or 12th grade or high school graduate, must live within 20 miles of Middle River or have parents that are members of the Middle River Community Club.

For the last few years, the Community Gardens behind the Middle River Legacy Center have been full of beautiful flowers, delicious vegetables and more. Everyone is invited to enjoy the gardens, whether than means pulling a few weeds or harvesting the plants!

It was already dark when I arrived in Middle River on a summer evening. To get there I had traveled over 330 miles from my home in the Twin Cities. The small NW Minnesota town has a population of 303 people and sits just about an hour south of the Manitoba border. When I arrived at my Airbnb for the night, I wasn’t checking into a hotel or a rental home, I was wheeling my luggage into a retired classroom.
