In a remarkable display of unity and generosity, the recent charity auction organized by Vista Outdoors received extraordinary support from Cragun's Resort in Brainerd, MN, particularly from their dedicated sales team. This overwhelming support culminated in a substantial donation of $34,900.00 to benefit the Middle River Veterans Outdoors (MRVO) program.

Newfest Parade Winners

Travelers on Highway 32 passing the Old Creamery will notice something has changed. There is a new resident making its home on the front lawn, however, this resident is not new to Middle River. See page 5 of this week’s Honker for the “rest of the story.” Many of you may remember the “COW” standing in the yard of the Royal Manor. You may not know why it came to stand there so proudly for many years. I can tell you the background story.

In the 48 years of the Goose Festival, there has probably never been a Grand Marshal “practicing” for the parade route. Trails for Treatments was doing that on Friday afternoon ~ just to make sure the horses feel comfortable when the parade rolls around.

Sally and Laurie were on the road once again, this time at the Newfolden Newfest parade. Laurie said, “it has been great going to local parades promoting Middle River,” and Sally answered with a simple “HONK!” I think that means “don’t forget about the 49th annual Goose Fest NEXT WEEK!” The weather looks good, there will be lots of fun, food, and frolic on the agenda, and time to meet and visit friends, old and new. When Tom Super took the oath of office as councilman for the city of Middle River, Jaws was the #1 movie, gasoline was 57 cents a gallon, the sliding hill and tennis court were not here, there was an average of 22 students in each grade at MR School, most of our streets were gravel, and everyone had a telephone hanging on the kitchen wall and had to stay within the length of the cord to talk! Times have changed but one thing has not -- Tom Super's dedication to the city of Middle River. Tom was born and raised in Mentor, graduating from high school in 1967. He graduated from Moorhead State College in 1972 and worked part time on the Burlington Northern railroad. He had just started his first teaching job at Sacred Heart in East Grand Forks when he was notified of a job opening with the Soo Line Railroad in Thief River Falls. In May of 1974 he moved to Middle River with his wife of 6 months, KayDell Henning. Tom recalls, “Instead of moving to Thief River Falls we chose to live in Middle River because of my love for hunting and also because of my friendship with my father in law Eddie Henning.”
